New York Free CDL Training
We are pleased to share that the Individual Training Grants for Commercial Driving are once again available for interested and qualified candidates. Attached you will find:
1) Our center’s CDL ITG Testing and Application Calendar & Criteria Overview
2) A breakdown of each driver’s license class description along with the sections to focus on in the Commercial Drivers’ Manual.
3) A listing of additional ITG training programs available through the system.
Candidates applying for either a CDL B or A License must have the respective CDL Permit. All candidates must bring their most recent abstract dated within 30 days to the center at the time of their appointment.
All sessions are by appointment ONLY. Candidates can schedule an appointment at call(718)847-2222. All candidates must register online at www.NYC.gov and be able to provide the confirmation number provided in order to set up the appointment.
ITG skills assessment passing score is 70 or better. Candidates are limited to taking the test twice per 6-month period.

Overview Of Testing Criteria:
Customers should meet the minimum requirements to apply for the CDL License before being referred to the ITG to commence process:
- Be able to provide an updated resume showing relevant driving experience.
- Be a Resident of NYC (one of the 5 Boroughs).
- Must have CDL Permit for the respective CDL being applied for.
- CDL A – Minimum of 2 years of recent truck (heavy and/or straight truck) driving experience with CDL B License.
- CDL B and C no experience needed, but some professional driving preferred.
- ALL candidates must have an unrestricted driver’s license for at least 3 years.
- 4 points or less displayed on valid Abstract (within 30 days).
- No suspensions of any type within the past 3 years (including due to scofflaw and non-driving related infractions).
- No At-Fault accidents within the past 5 years.
- Military experience driving commercial vehicles, may be substituted to meet ITG minimum professional experience where appropriate.
- The CDL ITG Assessment passing score is 70.
- In order to best prepare for ITG assessment test, candidates should be encouraged to review Commercial Driver’s Manual
- (General Knowledge and Passenger sections) available at local DMV locations at no-cost.
